A new Ambition in Plymouth

Ambition visiting Plymouth

Arrival of Ambition

Ambition, the cruise ship operated by Ambassador Cruise Line, arrived in Plymouth Sound on Thursday, 10 September.

The 216-metre cruise ship arrived early morning and certainly made an impression around the waterfront.

At 48,123 gross tonnes, Ambition is big enough to make the vessels around her look rather different in scale.

Even Aviva, the luxury super yacht that’s spent much of the summer turning heads around The Sound, looks surprisingly small alongside her.

Ambition is currently on a 12-night cruise taking in the coastlines of France, Belgium and Holland.

She left Newcastle last week, with a planned route that included Rouen, Honfleur, Cherbourg, Saint-Malo and Brest before arriving in Plymouth.

From here she's heading on to Zeebrugge and Amsterdam, before returning to Newcastle on 15 September.

And while Plymouth may be just one stop on the itinerary, the people exploring our city today, and putting their pounds and pennies into the local economy, are very much the audience Ambassador has built its cruises around.

The British company specialises in no-fly cruises from UK ports, with a particular focus on the 50-plus market, so there's a fair chance many of those passengers are enjoying their holiday without having had to set foot in an airport first.

September Sun

Ambition was built in 1999 and has been extensively refurbished, and she can accommodate around 1,200 guests.

She normally operates adult-only cruises from UK ports, visiting destinations around Europe and further afield.

From Jennycliff, Ambition could be seen against the backdrop of Cawsand and Kingsand, with a lovely bit of September sunshine thrown in for good measure.

Not a bad day to arrive in Plymouth!
