Tall Ship Morgenster

Ship Ahoy!

If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to sail aboard a real tall ship, here’s your chance.

From 27–31 August, the magnificent Dutch tall ship Morgenster is visiting Plymouth, giving people the opportunity to step aboard one of Europe’s most beautiful traditional sailing vessels.

Even better, there are sailing experiences available where you can become part of the crew and head out onto Plymouth Sound.

The Morgenster has an incredible story. Originally built in 1919 as a herring fishing vessel, she has been lovingly restored into a striking clipper brig – one of only a handful of ships of her type still sailing today.

This isn’t a floating museum. Whether you’re an experienced sailor or have never set foot on a boat before, you’ll be invited to help raise the sails, take the helm and experience life aboard a traditional square-rigged ship.

It’s a rare chance to discover how sailors crossed oceans long before GPS and engines became the norm.

With her towering masts, acres of canvas and more than 100 years of maritime history behind her, the Morgenster will make a spectacular addition to Plymouth’s waterfront.

Whether you’re booking a sailing experience or simply heading to the Barbican or Hoe to admire her from the shore, she’s certain to turn plenty of heads.
