A sea of Santas

The annual Plymouth Santa Fun Run returns this December, with hundreds of red-suited runners and walkers setting off to raise money for two brilliant local charities.

Organised by Saltram Rotary Club, this is a 2.5km or 5km fun run around some of Plymouth’s best-known waterfront sights. It’s not about racing or breaking records; it’s about having fun while raising money for people who need a helping hand.

Take part

Head over to the official website for the latest registration information. You can also get involved by cheering on the runners, spreading the word or making a donation to support the charities.

Where and when to watch

The fun starts at 11am on Sunday 6 December, with the start and finish at Commercial Wharf on the Barbican.

The route takes the Santas through the Barbican, up towards Plymouth Hoe and along Hoe Road and Madeira Road, offering some lovely views across Plymouth Sound along the way. The 5km participants complete a second lap.

Head down to the Barbican or find a good vantage point around the Hoe to enjoy the spectacle. Bring the family, wrap up warm and give the runners a cheer as they pass!

On a practical note: road closures will be in place from 9am to 1pm, and parking within the Barbican itself won't be possible. If you're travelling in, allow a little extra time.

Who's benefiting?

The Santa Fun Run raises money for two important local charities.

Hugs Children's Cancer Charity supports children with cancer and their families across Devon and Cornwall, offering practical, emotional and financial help, from counselling and respite breaks to family activities and support during difficult times.

Shekinah has been helping people build positive lives and futures for more than 30 years. Its work includes supporting people experiencing homelessness and poverty, helping them find accommodation, improve their wellbeing, access training and move towards employment.

Saltram Rotary also supports other Rotary-approved local charities, so the festive fun can make a difference well beyond the finish line.

Can't make it along?

You can still help turn festive fun into vital funds by making a donation through the event's website.

Find out more, donate or see the latest information at the official Plymouth Santa Fun Run website.

And if you're there on the day, give those Santas a wave. They might be running for fun, but they're doing it for a very good reason!
